Deon Conradie

1. How did you get started in Krav Maga?

Coming from a country like South Africa, I know and appreciate the importance of personal safety and self defence. After trying out various other martial arts (including kickboxing and muay thai), I discovered Krav Maga in 2013 while living in Perth. After the first class I was hooked, and immediately recognised the effectiveness of Krav Maga to protect myself and my loved ones. Since then I have never looked back, and am passionate about developing myself and others in self defence in an increasingly dangerous society.
2. What were your initial impressions of the training?
I was surprised at how practical, realistic and easy to learn Krav Maga is. The atmosphere and people were welcoming and supportive, and apart from realising how unfit I was back then, it was also fun!
3. How long have you been training in Krav Maga?
I have been training since 2013, and passed the civilian instructors course in 2016 under Rune Lind and Ilya Dunsky.
4. What other experience do you bring to Krav Maga?
I bring some experience in kickboxing and muay thai, but more importantly coming from a country like South Africa, I have first hand experience and an understanding of realistic violent confrontations, and the impact on you and those around you.
5. Have you trained in any other combative systems/martial arts type systems?
I have trained in both kickboxing and muay thai.
6. What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start Krav Maga?
If you want to learn practical no-nonsense self defence that will help you in a real life violent confrontation, this is it! Give it a go for a few classes, and you will probably be amazed at how quickly you can learn life savings self defence skills while getting a great workout, and having fun doing it. Also make sure that you find a reputable school affiliated with a recognised Krav Maga organisation.
7. What are your goals for Krav Maga?
I want to continue to develop and grow in my skills and understanding of Krav Maga, which will help me to become even better in teaching others in how to protect themselves and their loved ones. I am passionate about seeing people grow, becoming confident and reaching their potential.
