Originally from Canada, James Donison started training BJJ in 1997. He received his Black Belt from Rodrigo Carvalho Silva (Gracie Barra Vancouver) and Tim Shears (Pacific Top Team) in 2011.

Immigrating to Australia that same year, James taught classes in Far North Queensland to the eager students at Brad Hope Martial Arts, and even learned a little Hapkido from Master Brad Hope himself.

After moving to the Gold Coast he took a sabbatical from BJJ and focused on building a career outside of martial arts. But, as most practitioners of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will tell you, it’s hard to stay away for too long.

Thanks to Ash Gard and the team at InDefence, James is not only learning the art of ‘street survival’ through Krav Maga, he’s adapting BJJ to respond to weapon and multiple attack scenarios.

James Donison is hoping to share his knowledge with students who want to train in a fun, family orientated environment. See you on the mats.
